1981
Stephen Davies begins working as deckchair attendant on Southsea beach during the summers. Falls in love with deckchairs.
1987
Stephen buys deckchair operation on Southsea seafront. The passion for deckchairs becomes more intense.
1991
Stephen opens workshop in Napoleonic barn in Portsmouth using pre-war machines. First deckchair takes 3 weeks to make (no previous wood-work experience). Draws on knowledge of numerous different types of deckchairs on Southsea seafront to create the ultimate strong deckchair. First Southsea Deckchairs go into operation on Southsea seafront.
1992
Southsea Deckchairs begins supplying seafronts across the UK.
1998
Roma Davies joins the company. Now, Southsea Deckchairs increases its product range, particularly fabrics.
2003
Southsea Deckchairs begin selling to shops and garden centres. Becomes the UK’s leading producer of deckchairs.
2009
Southsea Deckchairs begins collaborations with art colleges and universities on new and original fabric styles.
2011
Southsea Deckchairs moves into larger premises. Major collaboration with Clarks, the world number one in ‘everyday footwear’, supplying custom-designed men's desert boots in Southsea Deckchairs fabric. First container shipped to customer in Far East.
2012
Supplies London 2012 Olympic Games deckchairs at Weymouth Beach.
2014
Southsea Deckchairs collaborate to produce the Fred Perry Southsea Deckchairs Classic Stripe.
